Have you ever wanted to learn how to sew, maybe craft a piece you can wear with pride? This is the class for you! Learn from the start how to select a pattern and the material to make you custom piece. Join us for for an afternoon of creativity and fun. We sew look forward to seeing you there.
* How to use a machine and actually thread that dang needle. * How to use the foot pedal and move your fabric in time with it. (Those who do not, bunch and knot their stitches) * How to pick your needle and make your first stitches.
* Start to learn how to make the machine work for YOU so all of your future projects are fun and you know how to handle hiccups.
PST: You can register for a Sew Buddy too and bring them with you!

We have machines available or you can bring your own. The cost? A mere $10/person/hour.

Bring Your Own Machine (BYOM)
Beginners, don’t fear your machine; bring it to Magpie and we’ll show you how to use it. We will review how your machine works, threading, stitches, and tensions. *Machines must have maintained within 1 year of class for best performance. All classes and Open Sewing Hours are by reservation only. Minimum registration of 4 students required to hold classes. Registrants will be informed of cancellations via email or phone.
Create a cute and stylish skirt for yourself or someone else. In this introductory class, you will learn how to construct a skirt from scratch. You’ll be provided with a pattern, from which you’ll learn to cut, measure, assemble and sew your chosen fabric into a fashionable finished product.
For this class, you will need to provide:
·Serger or sewing machine
·2 yards of large-print fabric
·2½ yards coordinating small-print fabric
·4 cones of coordinating serger thread (or thread/bobbin if using sewing machine)
·1 seven-inch zipper (coordinating needle and thread if using a serger)

Have some worn or torn clothes that you just can’t bear to throw away? Join Cortland Makerspace and Stacey from Magpie as we turn those old clothes (or use some of the provided items for a small donation) into something new using “upcycling”! Bring your own clothes or, for a nominal donation, use fabrics brought in by Stacey herself. The class is free & open to the public.
