Machine Sewing: Level 1

Students will start a specific project with instructor guidance. Topics covered: choosing patterns, gauging size, fabric appropriateness, and specialty needles/stitches.

Depending on project complexity, students may need to enroll in Open Sewing Hours to complete their project.

We have machines available or you can bring your own.
The cost? A mere $10/person/hour.

Bring Your Own Machine  (BYOM)

Beginners, don’t fear your machine; bring it to Magpie and we’ll show you how to use it. We will review how your machine works, threading, stitches, and tensions. *Machines must have maintained within 1 year of class for best performance. Ask us for maintenance details.  $25  3:30-5:00pm  Saturdays December 3, 17 January 21

All classes and Open Sewing Hours are by reservation only.   Minimum registration of 4 students required to hold classes.  Registrants will be informed of cancellations via email or phone.

BASIC “BRING YOUR OWN MACHINE” CLASS

Want to learn how to use your old sewing machine? Recently receive a machine that you’re nervous to try sewing on? Join our next BYOM class for a fun and informative hour and a half of instruction on your own machine.* Basic machine orientation, threading, bobbin preparation, tension, and stitch explanations will be covered, as well as some simple stitching practice on fabric samples. A great first class to take in preparation for our Level 1 Courses!

LEVEL 1 MACHINE CLASS- GUIDED PROJECT
If you’ve taken the Basic Machine Class, or are familiar with your machine, and would like more hands-on time working on a simple project, this class is for you! Students will continue exploring different stitches and features on their own machines, and will complete a simple pillow sampler (or project of your choice) using the features available on your machine.*

NEW – OPEN SEWING HOURS
For those of you looking to work “Quilting Bee” style on your machine-sewing projects, join us for Open Sewing Hours. You’ll gather with other novice and experienced sewing enthusiasts to finish old projects, do some mending, or get started on new efforts. Come enjoy sewing with like-minded individuals, and take advantage of the expertise around you.

Open Sewing Hours fee is $10 per hour, per person.
Sundays 2:30pm-5:30pm (by reservation)

Ages 12 and up welcome. Kids ages 8-11 are welcome with adult supervision.

*A limited number of classroom machines available to those who do not have their own machines. Please request this upon registration.

CLASS FEES:

includes 1.5 hours of class instruction (each class) and project fabrics

Magpie accepts cash, check and all major credit cards.

Sign up for any class or open sew hours by phone, or by responding to this email.  There are no walk-in hours, so non-registrants will not be notified of class cancellations.

Minimum of 4 students required to hold classes or open sew. Due to space constraints, we must cap our registrations at 10 students.
